Hay muchas expresiones relacionadas con el deporte que oiremos cuando escuchamos un partido de futbol retransmitido por televisión en inglés. Esto son los "idioms related to sport".

Hay uno que escuché hace poco en Eurosport y que comparto con vosotros

To take the game by the scruff of the neck.
If you take something by the scruff on the neck, you take complete control of the game, you dominate it

La frase creo recordar que era algo así como "The local team was losing by 3-1 with only 20 minutes remaining until the playmaker took the game by the scruff of the neck and scored twice before the final whistle".

Si TO TAKE es "tomar" o "coger", GAME es "partido" o "encuentro", SCRUFF es "cogote" o "nuca"  y NECK es "cuello" ... ¿Qué significará To take a game by the scruff of the neck?. Pues indagando mucho y consultando a algún "british" que otro la expresión resulta que viene de coger algo por el "cogote" para controlarlo, especialmente a un animal doméstico.

Y de ahí os cuento mi traducción para el término aplicado al fútbol ...... "coger el partido por los cuernos", "sacar toda la artillería" etc etc ¿Cual te gusta más?
