A HOWLER is a term used to describe a terrible piece of play, usually due to the mistake of a single player. A howler, for example, would be if a goalkeeper who is under no pressure inexplicably commits a mistake so the opponent scored.

Puedes traducirlo de muchas maneras según te convenga como error garrafal, cantada, picia o vulgarmente "cagada" etc...
Hay más  términos que utilizan en inglaterra. Cuando un guardameta mete la pata de manera estrepitoso o como decimos los castizos "la pifia" suelen utilizar el término BLUNDER.

(*) un sinonimo de hacer/cometer es TO COMMIT pero en este caso es mejor utilizar siemple "to commit" para faltas y "to make" para howler (Ej: The defender commits an offence - el defensa comete una falta)
